Bruce "Two Dogs" Bozsum, Chairman
Bruce
"Two Dogs" Bozsum was first elected to the Tribal Council in 2004. He
won re-election to the Tribal Council in 2005 and was selected by his
fellow Councilors to serve as Chairman. He is an appointed ceremonial
Pipe Carrier, a long-honored Mohegan tradition, and a self-taught, indigenous
flutist. Bozsum previously served as the Manager of Cultural and Community
Programs for the Tribe, responsible for educational outreach programs,
the annual Wigwam Festival and Cultural Week. Before that he worked as
a Floor Supervisor for the Tribe's High Stakes Bingo operation.
Marilynn "Lynn" Malerba, Vice Chairwoman
Marilynn
"Lynn" Malerba brings decades of managerial experience to her first term
on the Tribal Council. As Director and later Executive Director of the
Tribe's Health and Human Services Department from 1997 until 2005, she
was responsible for the development of the department and the programs
that directly benefit the membership. Prior to her employment with the
Tribe, Malerba held director and manager positions with Lawrence & Memorial
Hospital in New London, Connecticut, and currently serves on its Board
of Directors. Malerba is following in the footsteps of her mother, Loretta
Roberge, who was serving on the Tribal Council when the Tribe was federally
recognized.
Allison D. Johnson, Recording Secretary
First
elected to the Tribal Council in 2005, Allison D. Johnson brings ten years
of management experience and a background in employment law. Johnson has
been active in Tribal affairs since relocating to Connecticut in 2000.
Johnson most recently served as a Human Resources Manager for both the
Tribal government and Mohegan Sun. Prior to her service for the
Tribe, she held management positions in commercial leasing and retail
sales and support. Johnson served as an Alternate Commissioner for the
Tribal Employment Rights Commission. She is a graduate of San Diego Miramar
College in California with a degree in liberal arts.
Ralph James Gessner Jr., Corresponding Secretary
Ralph
James Gessner Jr. brings nine years of casino experience to his first
term as Tribal Councilor. He started his Mohegan Sun career as Executive
Host in 1997, was promoted to Manager and then Director of Executive Hosts
and finally to Vice President of Casino Marketing prior to being elected
in 2005. Before joining Mohegan Sun, Gessner worked as a marketing associate
for a food service company after graduating from the University of Southwestern
Louisiana with a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management.
William Quidgeon Jr., Treasurer
William
Quidgeon Jr. was elected to the Tribal Council in 2005 after serving in
several capacities for the Tribal government and the Mohegan Sun. Quidgeon was first hired as an electrician for the casino and within six
months was promoted to Facilities Manager. He left the casino in 1999
to become a Senior Project Manager for the Mohegan Tribal Development
Department where he was responsible for renovations and construction within
the casino and Tribal government. He also served as Board Chairman of
Mohegan Information Technology Group, a limited liability company majority-owned
by the Mohegan Tribe.
Mark F. Brown, Councilor
Elected
to the Tribal Council in 1995, Mark F. Brown served as Chairman from 2000
to 2005, during the completion of the $1 billion Project Sunburst expansion
that made Mohegan Sun one of the world's top destination resorts. A direct
descendant of the renowned Mohegan Chief Matahga, Brown was actively involved
in the Mohegan Tribe's efforts to achieve federal recognition. He left
a lifelong career in law enforcement to devote himself fulltime to the
Mohegan people. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Smithsonian
National Museum of the American Indian and the National Indian Gaming
Association.
Mark W. Hamilton, Councilor
Mark
W. Hamilton served as Mohegan Sun's General Counsel/Vice President for
nine years prior to being elected to Tribal Council in 2005. As General
Counsel Hamilton was responsible for reviewing and approving contractual
agreements, establishing guidelines and procedures for legal issues related
to operations, patrons, vendors and regulating agencies, overseeing the
legal staff and budget preparation. Prior to his employment with Mohegan
Sun, Hamilton worked as an attorney in a private practice.
Thayne D. Hutchins, Jr., Councilor
Thayne D. Hutchins, Jr., the most recently elected member of the Tribal council, was inducted into office on October 1, 2007. Mr. Hutchins was well-prepared for his new position, having served for six years in the finance department of the Mohegan Tribe. As a staff accountant, Mr. Hutchins’ business skills were employed in a variety of responsibilities, including the analysis and monitoring of the Tribe’s wide-ranging financial concerns. Mr. Hutchins graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Connecticut State University holding a B.A. in Economics with a concentration in accounting.
Cheryl A. Todd, Councilor
Ms. Todd served the Tribe as Executive Assistant to the Tribal Chairman for 11 years prior to being elected to the Tribal Council in 2007. Her position enabled her to participate in the daily operations of the Tribe, interacting with every department within the government and Mohegan Sun; federal, state and local government representatives; officials from other Indian Nations; and corporate and financial executives. In addition to her work experience with the Tribe, Ms. Todd also served on the Mohegan Strategic Planning Committee and the Mohegan Election Committee. Prior to her employment with the Tribe, Ms. Todd held multiple positions at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut. |
